35+ Unique Gifts To Get Someone Who’s A Marathon Runner
If you’re a runner then you probably know of a gift or two that would be really great to receive. If you aren’t a runner you’re probably thinking, “What are the best gifts for a marathon runner?“
Maybe your person is a running veteran and you want to gift them something unique. Or are you looking for a gift to buy for a brand new runner?
Regardless of your runner’s situation, you want to be sure you’re gifting something meaningful and useful. Whether you’re searching for runner birthday presents or Christmas gifts, this list will give you plenty of great ideas!
Best Clothing Gifts for Runners
If you want to gift a runner with a present that’s perfectly practical you don’t have to search too far. Running clothes are always a welcome gift as they’re what every runner needs.
So let’s start off with some great gift options of things to wear when running.
Clothing Gifts for Female Runners
If you have a sister, mother, or female friend who enjoys running, these are great gift ideas to get them through the miles.
BALEAF Quick-Dry Athletic Shirt
A moisture-wicking technical shirt is a great place to start. There are so many brands, styles, and colors, and I know that I’m always feeling as though I have to do laundry every other day because I don’t have enough running shirts.
The BALEAF Women’s Quick Dry Athletic Shirt is comfortable and reflective. This makes it a great option for early morning or late evening runners. This shirt also features 2 hidden window designs on the wrists to allow your runner to check their watch without rolling up their sleeves.
Bolder Athletic Wear Shorts with Pockets
Shorts are also essential for many runners in warm climates or during the warmer seasons. I’m always searching for the best shorts that won’t ride up leading to my thighs rubbing together (ouch, chafing!).
Bolder Athletic Wear Skirt with Pockets
I’ve been running in Bolder Athletic Wear skirts for years (starting back when they were known as SparkleSkirts). It all started with a pace group leader at my local group training runs who showed me how wonderful they were because they were made with giant pockets, perfect for holding so many important things!
Bolder Athletic Wear offers unique shorts and skirts for your runner. With various patterns, styles, and length options, you can give a well-appreciated gift.
These skirts are especially great for themed races like the runDisney race series. There are even options for maternity skirts, so everyone can enjoy these cute skirts and patterns.
Sports Bra with Support for Running
This is a gift that I always welcome, as it seems it’s one of the running items that I just never have enough of. Having a handful of supportive bras can be a luxury when you’re a distance runner and you sweat a lot.
The Brooks Women’s Dare Crossback Run Bra receives high marks for being supportive but beware that it has not proven as supportive for women requiring larger sizes.
Brooks has many other great options, and they often update old models and release new ones.
Hair Ties that Stay in Place on a Run
Not all hair ties are equal. My sister recently gifted me some fun Teleties, and I don’t think I’ll ever use anything else. These spiral coil hair ties hold the hair in place, and there are so many cute color patterns. They also magically don’t leave creases in hair. Amazing!
When you don’t want to wear your hair up anymore but have no place to put your Teletie, they make great wrist accessories, too.
Clothing Gifts for Male Runners
When it comes to buying gifts for men, this one always seems more difficult for me. Every Father’s Day, I can’t seem to figure out the best gift to give my dad.
If a man in your life likes running, these gift ideas for marathon runners will make your life much easier.
BALEAF Quick-Dry Athletic Shirt
The BALEAF Men’s Athletic Long Sleeve Running Shirt offers similar benefits as the women’s. With its quick-drying abilities and ergonomic thumbholes, this shirt is stylish and comfortable during long runs.
This specific men’s shirt doesn’t offer window designs for watch viewing, but there are other options that do include it such as this zip pullover.
Bolder Athletic Wear is a fantastic company for high-quality running shorts. With large pockets, incredible pattern choices, and sizes from 3XS to 3XL, there’s something for everyone!
Clothing Gifts for Any Runner
Both male and female runners wear many clothing items. These are some of the most useful running clothes, and they make great gifts because they’re extremely practical.
Socks
When searching for the best sports socks, there are so many to choose from. My personal favorite socks are made by Injinji.
These are toe socks, so it can take some getting used to them, but these socks eradicated my blister problems. Since each toe is separated, the likelihood of blisters decreases because friction between your skin decreases.
It also means that each toe has a moisture-wicking barrier around it to help your toes stay dry when you sweat. They also offer some interesting patterns and various heights and thicknesses.
Pants for Cold Weather Running
If your runner is going to be heading out in frigid temperatures, they will likely need something warmer than shorts. The CW-X Women’s Endurance Compression Tight will add stability and warmth to their run.
In addition to being very warm and temperature-regulating, these pants also have a Support Web that adds stability to joints, especially in the knee area.
Quality Running Shoes
It’s always a great idea to know what shoe brand and size your runner wears before making this purchase. However, if you can locate that information, you can give an incredible gift. Running shoes aren’t cheap, and their only purpose leads to their eventual demise.
My running shoe of choice since 2015 is Altra. Their shoes are made with a foot-shaped toe box so that your toes can be more natural than other running shoes that often cut off space near the pinky toe.
Be aware that many models of their shoes are eventually discontinued or altered. If your runner has a favorite style, I suggest grabbing a pair for backup. I can’t imagine a better gift than my favorite shoe, which I can no longer find.
Running Hat
A hat is great for keeping the sun out of your runner’s eyes and for accessorizing on a run or while running errands.
Headsweats makes exceptional hats for runners, and with great styles, including Bigfoot in several scenarios, this is a gift that your runner will enjoy and receive endless compliments on while out and about.
Athletic Gloves
Some runners require good, thick gloves for cold-weather running. When I run on a cold day, my hands usually feel cold for the first mile, and then they heat up. I prefer a light glove to stuff them in my pockets after I warm up easily.
When my boyfriend heads out in the same conditions, he returns completely unable to feel his hands – that is, until he got a pair of SEALSKINZ Gloves. This pair is pretty heavy-duty and is specifically designed for cycling. They also allow you to use your touchscreen devices still.
Compression Socks and Sleeves
As previously mentioned, I wear Injinji toe socks when running, so I don’t rely on compression socks to get me through a race. However, compression socks are super useful when not running, too.
Following a marathon, I love to throw on a pair of CEP compression socks to help blood flow and lead to faster recovery. Occasionally, I’ll also use CEP calf sleeves during a race or long run, which work great alongside my Injinji socks.
Loungewear
Maybe your runner wants to rep their run obsession even when lounging at home or running errands. A great option to be comfortable and stylish is Sarah Marie Design Studio.
Sarah Marie Design Studio always has great original designs quite comical to any runner. She is always adding more items, so checking regularly can turn up some great finds.
She doesn’t just sell clothing but also accessories like wine glasses and nail wraps.
Recovery Gifts for Marathon Runners
If you’re looking for a great gift for marathon runners after the race, look no further. These recovery gifts will help them relax and rejuvenate. You’ll be their favorite person for providing such a great gift!
Oofos Sandals
This is the number 1 gift for marathon runners after the race.
It’s also a great option for either female or male runners. Every distance runner knows the feeling of fatigue after a long run.
Maybe it’s an extra-long training run, perhaps a race, or it’s possible they’ve just spent a lot of time on their feet. Gifting them Oofos to help their feet and leg muscles recover is a great way to show your support to your favorite runner.
The special OOfoam technology that Oofos uses helps to reduce the impact on the feet, which makes sore and tired joints much happier post-run. I seriously love my Oofos and wish I had a pair sooner.
Foam Roller
Foam rollers are especially helpful after long runs or cross-training sessions that leave your muscles sore. Different types of foam rollers are available, including full-length and travel sizes (great for taking along to an out-of-town race!).
Out of more than 10,000 reviews, this foam roller from The Original Body Roller has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars – pretty fantastic!
Massage Gun
Massage guns have become very popular in recent years. If your runners often book massage therapy appointments, why not give them the gift of self-massage with a TOLOCO Massage Gun?
Expensive Gifts for Runners
If you’ve got some money to spend and a very important runner in your life, these are really nice gifts that any marathon runner would appreciate.
Headphones
In recent years, the Shockz Headphones have become a great new option for those who want to listen to music and podcasts on their run while being able to stay alert.
Instead of being placed in the ears, these headphones sit just in front of the ear and use bone conduction technology to allow the runner to hear the music through their cheekbone. This keeps their ears free to hear their surroundings. This technology is incredible and can truly be lifesaving.
GoPro
If your runner likes to sightsee whether in a city or on a scenic running trail then a GoPro could be a really nice gift.
With the newest GoPros weighing less and taking up less space these powerful cameras can help a runner capture all of the beauty on their runs. I’ve been a big fan of taking pictures and videos during a few of my most memorable races.
Fitness Tracker
With nearly 30,000 reviews and 4.7/5 stars, the Garmin Instinct GPS Running Watch is a fan favorite. It’s noted by reviewers as being light, comfortable, and having great battery life. These are all important factors for a long-distance runner.
Another option (and my personal favorite) is a fitness tracker like an Apple Watch that will allow your runner to enjoy it while on a run or in their day-to-day life.
Cheap Gifts for Runners
Looking to spend a little less money? These gift ideas should suit your needs!
Best Gifts for Runners Under $50
Items that are around $50 or less can be superb gifts for a marathon runner. Budget-friendly and useful are my favorite running presents!
Sunglasses
Sunny days may call for a hat, but for some runners (like myself), sunglasses are the only way to go. On especially hot days, the heat trap of a hat can really detract from my run experience, so I grab a pair of goodr sunglasses before I head out the door.
I don’t trust myself not to drop, scratch, or lose my sunglasses, but with a brand like goodr I don’t have to worry so much as most pairs are only $25. I’m all for affordable running gear!
Hydration Holder
A long-distance run in the heat means your runner risks dehydration. There are several options for carrying hydration on the run, including a backpack, hydration belt, and a handheld bottle.
I use the Amphipod Hydraform Thermal-Lite Handheld after years of using a belt, and I much prefer the handheld.
With the belt, I felt like much of my energy was being drained due to the rocking of the liquid in the several bottles I would wear. I can use the momentum better with one bottle in my hand than with a belt.
SPIbelt
Maybe your runner doesn’t have enough pockets when running and needs to carry fuel or a phone.
SPIbelt is a great option for the minimalist runner who needs to carry at least a few items. For me, it fits my iPhone 11, a house key, and an energy gel or two.
Best Gifts for Runners Under $25
If you’re looking to only spend a few dollars, these runner gifts are for you.
They’re great options if you’re putting together a runner gift basket or looking for something simple to gift at a runner White Elephant party!
Fuel
Every long-distance runner has a favorite running fuel so you must be sure you know your runner well before purchasing on their behalf. However, I would absolutely love it if someone helped me stock up with running fuel so that I wouldn’t have to think about it during my training cycle.
Honey Stinger is a great brand of fuel for runners. This brand offers energy gels, gummies, cracker bars, and waffles. All of their products use honey as a sweetener and they have great flavors to choose from.
Hydration
Hydration is also a necessity of the run life. Proper hydration can make all the difference in a training cycle, but again be sure to study your runner’s interests.
My personal favorite hydration product is Nuun. With a variety of flavors, options for caffeinated, and immunity support there’s a Nuun for everyone.
Humorous Running Book
The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances is a hilarious book that can help a runner cope with their obsession with running while making them laugh.
A friend gifted me this book. It was a terrific and quick read that made me laugh at all the craziness that running brings to my life. This is a simple and affordable option for a running friend and they are sure to enjoy its humor about running.
Body Glide
Chafing is never fun, and it’s even worse when you don’t notice it until you’re in the shower.
The burn!
Body Glide can help your runner prevent chafing and avoid pain. Body Glide also has options for Cycle Glide, Foot Glide, and Body Glide for Her.
Gifts to Keep Runners Safe
You want your runner to be safe while running around the neighborhood or out on the trails. Each of these items could be the gift that saves their life.
GoGuarded
Although I wish it wasn’t necessary, this tool could be literally lifesaving. If you have a runner in your life whom you care for, giving them a Go Guarded Ring can help them to be prepared for the worst.
If you worry about your runner heading out on runs on secluded paths or for solo runs, giving them something like a Go Guarded Ring could help supply them with self-defense with almost no training.
My boyfriend gave this to me a few years ago, and I can say I feel a little more secure when I carry it.
Noxgear
Keep your runner seen! If your runner is like me, perhaps they get caught running at dusk occasionally. This can be quite dangerous. I upped my visibility game in 2020 after daylight savings time ended, and the sunset was beating me out the door.
With the Noxgear Tracer2 LED running light-up vest, everyone will see your runner. There are multiple lighting options, including 8 solid colors and 8 multicolor flashing modes. Drivers have no choice but to pay attention when they see this vest.
Best Gift for Runners with Dogs – Noxgear LightHound
If your runner has a furry running buddy, investing in a visibility harness for them is a great idea, too! This will keep Fido safe and content on the run (or just the early morning and evening walks).
Noxgear makes the LED LightHound LED dog harness with 6 multicolor flashing modes and 8 solid color modes.

Road ID
My sister gifted me Road ID years ago. It’s a really great option to help provide emergency information, including emergency contacts, allergy and medicine information, family history, and even passports and other documents.
Purchase a Road ID and get the first six months of the Emergency Online Profile service for free. Then, pay just $10 a year after that. The online profile is where the emergency information is stored and allows first responders access 24 hours a day.
They also make ID tags for pets, and options for ID tags that attach to your Apple Watch band.
Cross-Training Gifts
Every long-distance runner knows that cross-training is an important part of being well-trained. However, for some runners (like myself), it can be a struggle to find the motivation to cross-train.
When provided the tools to cross-train successfully, I’m definitely more motivated. Great options for cross-training gear include:
Stationary Bike Converter
Yoga Mat and Gear

Thoughtful Gifts for Runners
Show your favorite runner that you know them well.
These items make some of the best gifts to give a marathon runner. You’ll definitely be remembered as an awesome gift giver for any of them.
Medal Display
This is a great gift when your runner has run several races but has nowhere to display their accomplishments. My sister got me this medal display a few years ago, and it’s a great reminder that I can do hard things.
This medal display is especially nice because it has a spot for those race bibs that you don’t know what to do with but can’t bring yourself to toss out.
Running Calendar
This run calendar will help keep your runner inspired all year long.
With motivational quotes, a place to document how many miles they completed that day, and an area to record notes about their run, they’ll be able to track their progress and feel eager to continue their running journey.
Training Diary
A complete running journal could also be incredibly helpful for runners who need a little extra motivation to stick to a training plan.
In this journal, they can set their goals, track their race results, and review their successes at the end of the year with a yearly reflection. Sometimes, writing down our goals is all we need to succeed.
Recipe Books for Runners
One of the greatest purchases I made for myself was this recipe book by 4-time Olympian Shalane Flanagan. Many of these recipes have become staples in our house including the very popular Superhero Muffins.
For those who want some meal ideas that take a bit less time to make, Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow is the second recipe book that really changed the game for me.
Between these two books, your runner will have great options for pre-race fuel or post-race smoothies along with great dinner ideas to accompany their running goals.
Run Group Training Program
A great running store such as Fleet Feet may offer group training runs.
In Nashville, these training groups often include a 12-week program to help you cross the finish line of a half or full marathon, different pace groups you may join for your long run each Saturday, and a curated weekly workout schedule to help you meet your goals, and more!
The spring training program in Nashville can help them to prepare to run the St. Jude Nashville Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon or half marathon.
Race Registration
If you already know that your runner is run-obsessed, why not treat them to something they love? There are many races and various distances, and there is even the option of virtual runs.
Massage
Following the success of their goal race, or maybe following an especially difficult long run, a massage is a great gift to help your runner relax and allow their body to repair.
Most massage therapy locations will allow you to purchase a gift card so that your runner can choose when to have their massage. Be sure to do your research on the place you choose to be certain it offers a massage that is helpful for runners.
In Nashville, Franklin Massage is always highly recommended among the running community for their sports massage.
The Most Unique Gift for Morning Runners
There are many special gifts that any runner would love.
For an early riser, this is hands-down the most unique gift for a runner.
Hatch Restore Alarm Clock
If your favorite runner gets up early for runs before the sun comes up, then a gift like the Hatch Restore can be perfect to help ease them out of bed in the mornings. Sometimes I find it difficult to get myself out of bed, especially in the fall and winter months when it’s cold and dark.
This alarm clock helps my body feel like it’s waking up naturally with the sunrise and the sound machine aspect includes sounds that are helpful in getting me to relax and fall asleep faster at night.
Final Note: Best Gifts for a Marathon Runner
Whether you’re searching for a gift for a first-time marathon runner or someone who’s been a long-distance runner for years, there’s something for everyone on this list. For runners who seem to have everything, surprise them with one of these unique gifts for a marathon runner.
