The Torin 6 Road-Running Shoe is the latest iteration of one of Altra’s most popular neutral road running shoe.
It features a jacquard knit mesh upper for maximum breathability. A balanced blend of cushioning and responsiveness, courtesy of Altra’s lightweight EGO™ Max foam midsole, keeps you comfortable on the run.
⭐️ My experience: This is my personal favorite Altra running shoe. They are incredibly lightweight, provide plenty of space in the toe box, and last me 400-500 miles.
I’d recommend this shoe for those who wear mini-crew running socks and higher. The newer Torin design in recent years has been known to cut runners where the tongue’s top meets the ankle.

2. Provision 6 Road-Running Shoe
The Provision 6 Road-Running Shoe from Altra is the perfect running shoe for those seeking a cushioning and stability blend.
This neutral running shoe features an engineered mesh upper and is highly breathable. Your feet are sure to keep cool even on long runs.
The midsole comprises the InnerFlex™ grid-like grooves and the EGO™ Max cushioning foam. This combination provides an ultra-soft feel to make every step smooth and responsive.
The Provision 6 also features Altra’s GuideRail™ technology. This helps align your feet properly during each stride, reducing fatigue and enhancing performance.
⭐️ My experience: The Provision 4 initially caused a callous at my heel where there are two protruding, soft cushion elements. They eventually formed to fit my foot, and I no longer had this issue. However, this element didn’t add much to the shoe for me.
Overall, the Provisions are a quality shoe that lasted many miles.

3. Paradigm 6 Road-Running Shoe
If you’re looking for a running shoe that provides sublime cushioning and stability, look no further than the Altra Paradigm 6 Road-Running Shoe.
Like most Altra running shoes, this shoe has a breathable mesh upper to keep your feet cool and comfortable.
Balanced Cushioning™ technology also features on the Paradigm 6, which ensures your heel and forefoot are the same distance from the ground. This encourages proper low-impact form throughout your run.
The cushion in these shoes is serious. The 30mm stack height provides an abundance of support for long runs. However, this may not be your top choice if you prefer sleeker shoes. While the weight is relatively low at 9.3 ounces, the shoe feels bulky.
⭐️ My experience: I’ve found that I occasionally kick my ankles when switching to my Paradigm pair due to the bulk added that doesn’t exist with shoes like the Torin. The Paradigm are 1 ounce heavier than the Torin.

The Escalante 3 Road-Running Shoe is a running shoe for those seeking a lightweight yet supportive ride.
Altra’s unique design features a sock-like mesh knit upper on this shoe. This provides breathability and allows your feet to move naturally without restriction.
Altra also utilizes the EGO™ Max cushioning foam in the Escalante 3. This helps provide an energy boost each time your foot hits the ground while protecting your feet from shock and impact.
The Escalante 3 also features Altra’s FootPod™ technology in the outsole. This helps improve foot stability by helping to distribute pressure evenly throughout the shoe.
⭐️ My experience: I purchased a pair of the Escalante 2 in 2019. It was the first time I bought a pair of running shoes at full price. Initially, I loved them; they were wildly lightweight and so pretty.
After about 30 miles, they somehow felt like they had no support. Although they were light, it felt like I was running directly on concrete.
I haven’t been brave enough to try the updated design, but reviews across the internet show that the Escalante 3 model is significantly improved.

If you’re an avid trail runner, you know an essential piece of gear is a good pair of shoes. The Altra Lone Peak 7 Trail-Running Shoe offers fantastic features for all levels of trail runners (and hikers!).
The upper part of the shoe is made with a quick-dry air mesh. This material provides maximum breathability while still being durable enough to handle rough terrain.
MaxTrac™ outsoles provide grip, traction, and durability, while TRAILCLAW™ lugs on the ball of the foot provide traction and stability.
Like their road running counterparts, these shoes feature FootShape™ technology that allows your feet to spread out and remain in a natural position throughout your run or hike.
This design brings it back to the good old days and features the Original FootShape™ Fit, so you know these will supply plenty of room for your toes to splay naturally.
⭐️ Experience: My boyfriend has an earlier model of the Lone Peaks and thoroughly enjoys hiking in them, saying they’re super grippy on the trail, giving him confidence in taking strides. This is still true when the trail happens to be muddy.

If you’re an avid trail runner or hiker looking for a great pair of shoes to support your outdoor adventures, the Altra Timp 4 Trail-Running Shoe is worth considering.
This shoe offers many of the same features as the Lone Peak 7 (like the Altra EGO™ Max midsole foam) but with some subtle differences that make it more suited to different types of terrain.
The Timp 4 features an improved fit designed to provide better performance on any trail, ground, or terrain. A Balanced Cushioning™ platform positions your heel and forefoot at an equal distance from the ground, helping you maintain proper form and a low-impact landing.
The Lone Peaks and the Timps feature 5 mm contour insoles that provide additional cushioning. This ensures your feet are comfortable and well-supported during long runs or hikes on rugged terrain.
⭐️ My experience: I have a pair of the Altra Timp2, and I love them. I use them as my exclusive hiking shoe each week, and they’re comfortable whether we hike two or 10 miles. They provide excellent traction and have prevented me from slipping and falling on days following heavy rain.

Altra Running was purchased in 2018 by VF Corporation, and there’s been a shift with the shoes since, including a narrowing of the toe box.
You’ll now see almost no shoe models with that Original FootShape™ Toe Box Fit. Instead, most are made with a “Standard” fit that is narrower than the original but still leaves more space than traditional running shoes.
While I preferred the original fit, I’ve still found that several pairs of Altras are wide enough for my running comfort.
